Dermatology
Dermatology is a medical specialization treating skin diseases, with cosmetology and venereology being its related areas. Worrying skin lesions do not have to result from improper functioning of this organ, but can be caused by internal diseases.
How does the visit at a dermatologist look like?
During the visit, a dermatologist first looks at all worrying skin lesions. The doctor may also use a dermatoscope for more in-depth examination, order skin swab or microbiological test. Dermatologists often refer their patients to allergy tests, to an allergist or, if the problems might be connected with hormones, to blood tests.
When is it a good idea to consult a specialist?
It is a good idea to consult a specialist if we notice lesions on our skin, but also when its condition deteriorates, we notice its excessive flaking or seborrhoea. The same refers also to nails and hair. Those who suffer from chronic diseases, such as acne, psoriasis or atopic dermatitis, consult a dermatologist regularly.
